Coronary Stents
A stent is a tiny, expandable, cylindrical wire mesh tube. It acts as a permanent support to keep blood vessels open when they become blocked with plaque. Those stents that are placed in vessels of the heart are called coronary or cardiac stents. They are placed in the blood vessels through a procedure called Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) also known as Stenting. This is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anaesthesia and only takes a few hours to perform.
